Hi Jenny and Nicole,
I hear you about wanting your knits to go to a loving home. I suggest hosting a Swap Party. You would invite all your friends to also bring anything (clothes, books, craft supplies, etc.) they have that they no longer want. You spend the whole afternoon or evening trying stuff on and deciding what you want to keep from your friends' stash. Once the party is over, the host bundles up anything that is left to be taken to the thrift store. This way, people you know and love get first chance at your things, and everything is ultimately out of your house!

Sounds like you might like an A-line pullover, Nicole, since the shape you love with cardis is that swingy top-buttoned look.

I've got a great idea for all those things you find unworthy of being frogged and repurposed! Send them to me! I'm on a very tight budget and would love to get free yarn even if I have to do some work to use it. Just a thought. I'd pay postage.

AHEM, what's up twinsie?! I am all about the high waisted skirt these days. I even designed one. I love it.

And 28thirty is totally good with a tunic and with dresses. Good call!

Thanks for the great episode. I have donated several early knits to Goodwill. It was painful, but I felt guilty every time I spotted them in my closet. Now I don't have to look at them. (Like you, I also cannot imagine frogging and re-using the yarn.) As for most wearable knits, for my body type, I wouldn't vote for the one-button-at-the-top sweaters. It exposes my post-two-kids belly. Instead, I like one button at the narrowest part of the waist -- much more flattering for me. One knit that I thought would be a great wardrobe standby is Sesame. However, it just looks boxy and unflattering and it's one that I am contemplating adding to my next Goodwill run...

Nicole, your X-Back Pullover brings back memories -memories of the fact that I bought the yarn for it so many years ago, it's the oldest in my stash. And I will never make that thing, b/c it will never be wearable with a bra. What was I thinking? Oh wait, I wasn't. I will probably make something for our store (Marce and I). But hey, you looked cute in yours.

I would rip my old knits, but I weave in my ends so good, this is not a viable prospect. So off they go to the Goodwill, where I hope someone likes them.

Holly

You would think with all these failed projects, we would just give up! Knitters are full of perseverance!

Great episode as always! Listened to it twice now. :) As a new knitter I guess I have quite a few reject projects in front of me...

TLTNYC

Love the Taco Bell song. Should be stuck in my head for at least a few days, thanks. Haha!

Just catching up on episodes - great as always and agree w/ TLTNYC - combination pizza hut & taco bell simultaneously hilarious and earworm!

Stash and Burn

I had to make my husband stop singing at some point because it was driving
me crazy! That said, I still love it.

  • Jenny Check
Jenny learned to knit in 2005 and now knits to the exclusion of her personal hygiene. Her husband wonders how long this "knit from your stash" charade will continue.
  • Nicole
Nicole (aka Big Sister) is a librarian who knits. Or maybe a knitter who is a librarian. When she's not knitting on the bus or in front of the TV or at lunch or when chatting with friends, she is, well, that's pretty much it. Knitting.
