For carry along thread have you looked at the Jo-Ann Etc stores? I know that in Ohio they carry a wide range of Wooly Nylon.

Great episode! I definitely find my sock enthusiasm goes in waves. Also, you might want to clarify one thing from your podcast: Cat Bordhi's "Socks Soar..." book is not the Magic Loop method -- it is the TWO-circulars method. (Magic Loop uses just ONE long circular.) The Melissa Morgan-Oakes book uses Magic Loop for two socks at one a time. My preferred sock method is two circulars -- I'd been doing one sock at a time on two circulars but I just learned how to do two at a time on two circulars. It's a bit fiddly but you don't have to worry about Second Sock Syndrome! :)

Just finished listening yesterday on a plane home from DC. Here's a tip on swatching for socks: knit them toe-up. I also hate swatching for socks. But, if I make a toe-up sock, I use Judy's Magic Cast On and start kitting. Eventually, there is enough fabric to measure gauge. Once I have the gauge measured, I decide if I need to alter the pattern or if I can knit it as written. Most patterns can be successfully converted to toe-up, as long as you don't mind that the stitch pattern flows in the opposite direction.

I'm firmly in the camp of people who don't swatch for socks. I just cast on, and use the first three inches as my swatch.
(Also, Jules is from The Inside Loop.)
