Thanks for the great new episode. I,too, love getting out of the regular yarn store rut. I used to love to occasionally pop into Studio Knit in Mill Valley. Did you ever go there? It was a lovely, friendly little store that served coffee (!) and even had a toy box for kids. It closed somewhat abruptly and I was disappointed. I do pop into Nine Rubies once in awhile when I visit my parents on the Peninsula. I will have to check out those Lafayette stores -- they sound great. :)

LAB

Thanks for the yarn shop tour of Lafayette. I may have to hop on BART for my own road trip. Love the show...

After listening to your podcast, I *had* to go buy some Berroco Comfort DK. Thanks for letting us know about it!

Also, I'd be happy to contribute a prize to the 7 Long project. Just email me back if that would work for you two.

I completely agree that Twist Collective needs its very own catagory! I'm personally considering it a catalog (Remember those crazy catalogs with the little stories that went with every item?) I think it's a great tool for designers, and I loved the quality of the designs! My only fear is that designers will leave the traditional magazines!

Deborah

Great podcast you guys. I listened while I worked on my felt flowers. Very enjoyable.

Darcy Watts

I loved the tour of Lafayette and I like Twist Collective:)Hugs Darcy

I love cestari and versus. Thanks for talking about one and playing the other.

I made a cabled vest out of Cestari 5 years ago. The yarn only gets softer and woollier (in a good way = no pilling) year after year. I made this vest for Adrienne as a gift. I bet you can guess though who really wears it!

Abigail

I should dig out some of my single balls of calmer and knit kid hats for you.

Did anyone ever let you know that they have that Madder, Indigo, Marigold book at Purlescence? I know that was an old episode that you talked about it. :)

Hey guys, thanks for the mention of Twist Collective in your show. We're blushing.
If you're looking for a ringing endorsement of the quality of our extensively technically edited and professionally produced patterns, (worth every penny-- just sayin') check out our group on Ravelry http://www.ravelry.com/groups/twist-collective. Hope this helps.

If you're ever in Kansas...
Twist, in Wichita, is your kind of store: http://www.twistyarnshop.com/

1. It's rare to come in and not find at least one person (usually more) hanging out knitting or crocheting or spinning and chatting with Shelly, the owner.

2. Lots of couches and tables and even a play room for kids. There's a fridge with soda, water cooler, coffee pot, and a shelf of mugs (leave your own there or borrow one of hers). On evenings the store is open late we frequently bring beer or wine.

3. Shelly knits & ravels. While she finishes many very lovely projects (don't know how she finds the time), she has a basket full of her UFOs. (Unfortunately, she doesn't get to ravel all of her projects.)

4. Shelly is friendly, warm, energetic and knowledgeable. If she doesn't have time to answer detailed questions, someone hanging out in the store will answer the person's questions.

who are we?

  • Jenny Check
Jenny learned to knit in 2005 and now knits to the exclusion of her personal hygiene. Her husband wonders how long this "knit from your stash" charade will continue.
  • Nicole
Nicole (aka Big Sister) is a librarian who knits. Or maybe a knitter who is a librarian. When she's not knitting on the bus or in front of the TV or at lunch or when chatting with friends, she is, well, that's pretty much it. Knitting.
