Haven't listened yet, but I just want to say, the extra week's wait makes me ALL THE MORE EXCITED when I see a new episode. It used to be "yay!" now it's more of a coffee spit take!

I haven't listened either. I just knew you guys would spin eventually. ;)

Thanks for a fun episode. I think I'm in the "not interested in spinning" camp, primarily because I don't want to add any hobbies that will take away from knitting time. But I did enjoy your discussion (especially the funny "keeping it real" comment). THANKS! :)

Welcome to the dark side!! I'm a novice spinner, and what fun it is. I just went to the Retzlaff winery spinning gathering this past weekend. Great fun, and met some great people. I think spinning is great fun, and would push it on any fiber addict.

I wanted to applaud and commend you both for learning more about spinning. I feel spinning will enhance your knitting. I also feel it helps one make informed decisions when buying machine spun yarn. There is definately a greater and deeper appreciation for yarn and textiles when one learns to spin. I'm a novice spinner and knitter but I feel spinning makes me want to knit more --- otherwise I'm not sure if my investment in knitting would be so pronounced. Thanks for keepin' it real!

I'm so excited that you've caught the spinning bug! I caught it myself this past winter, and I've been making friends with my wheel for the past few months. Spinning is lots of fun and very addictive. There definitely does get to be a point where it just clicks, so keep practicing! (And I should add that I'm one of those people who was just so so on the drop spindle but took off once I started on the wheel.)
I'm definitely going to have to look for "A Fine Fleece"; yours is the second or third really positive review I've heard. Two other books I've found to be really helpful are "Teach Yourself Visually Handspinning" by Judith McKenzie McCuin (sp?) and "Start Spinning" by Maggie Casey. Both have a lot of good explanations with clear pictures to go with them.

I love this episode! You did a great job trying to explain, over a podcast, the motions of spinning. While for some, they would not dare talk about the a subject that is new or unknown, you both really put yourselves out there and took a stab at the vocabulary and descriptions. It's so refreshing! Jenny, spinning class, Article Pract, June 29, July 6, nudge, nudge. You will learn how to ply...

I'm definitely not laughing at you! I'm in the same boat as far as spinning, except I plunged in and bought a wheel (a Lendrum DT complete, which I highly recommend!). Long draw? You have GOT to be kidding me!!! I developed my own inch worm style though, and enjoy spinning away in the evenings. It does seem fiddly, but the result is awesome, and the motions are relaxing. Hang in there, people tell me that once you hit on how to do it, it is actually HARD to make that lovely textural beginner yarn.
I bought the Casey 'Start Spinning' book, and it is pretty helpful. Now if I could only convince my mom to start raising sheep again.......

Oh no! Not you two as well. Just seems like everybody is getting into spinning. Not for me since I barely get enough time to knit.
Sincerely though, I am interested in spinning just to learn about it, and see how it's done. Good luck with it. I'm sure you two will be able to master spinning as well as knitting.
As far as other podcasts go, it is difficult to find other ones to listen to. At least just to check them out. And I love Shifting Channels! Glad to know that other people watch just as much TV as I do : )
Have a great weekend!

I'm so glad you guys did an episode about spinning. I've caught the spinning bug too (you can visit my blog to see my first yarn). Like Nicole, I want to buy a wheel too but I'm getting somewhat busy with another side project of mine (not knitting related) that I think it would be a waste of money. So I'll keep spinning with my CD spindle till I'm ready.
I also wanted to let you know that there are other less known online knit magazines that you guys did not mention on the podcast. This one is called Tejemanejes and it is in its 2nd issue. It is all in Spanish, so it's geared toward that type of crowd, but I'm sure if you had a good dictionary (or made some friends with some Spanish speakers on Ravelry) you can get the hang of it. My favorite patterns are the Baby Kimono and the cabled socks "Noviembre".
Anyway, just wanted to "PIMP" this sight because I think what they are doing over there is fabulous. Take care!

Thanks for another insightful cast on the knitting life. Your enthusiasm is infectious and you are by far the best podcast to knit along with.

great episode, you made it so interesting, and I have a horrible feeling that I might catch the bug too (but not too soon I hope, I'm still learning how to knit!)

Loved this episode with all its spinningness! I'm really glad you are getting back into it.

Not to be downer but won't spinning have an opposite effect of decreasing your stash? I'm just saying.
